"During my summer internship for Alta, I learned the beginning processes that go into building a house. I learned a lot about concrete and how they cure it for certain days and use a machine to test its strength. It was fun learning to do cylinder breaks. I also learned about how Alta tests the moisture and compaction of the soil under where new structures will be built and how they have to fall between certain limits depending on the project. I also learned about soil proctors done in the lab; it was interesting to see the results in the reports they had me drafting. I also learned how to read structural plans to count how many tendons made up a house and draft up templates for different house plans that techs out in the field used. As I return to school in the fall, Alta has been really flexible with my hours; they know school is my main priority. I really enjoyed this internship because everyone was so nice and patient when teaching me new things. This experience is helping me think about what branch of civil engineering I will pursue."

"Since day 1 as an intern at Alta, it was made clear to me that they put the employee's career and personal growth first and there's a real emphasis on retaining and mentoring the talent that they already have. I was impressed by all of the opportunities to learn from different professional engineers and surveyors to gain a different perspective on the industry. I've personally been fortunate enough to work in 3 different departments within my first 2 years at Alta."

“This November will mark my 9th year with Alta Arizona. My journey started in 2015 while I was attending CGCC as a full-time student majoring in engineering with a minor in accounting. I’ve experienced everything from Geotech to surveying and now currently within the civil department. The exposure and ability to switch between departments over the years has been crucial to my professional development and has given myself the opportunity to find my footing (no pun intended).”
