ChemCheck
ChemCheck is Alta’s proprietary compliance and reporting system designed for facilities whose chemical inventories carry federal, state, or local reporting obligations. While many organizations maintain internal awareness of what they store, ChemCheck™ provides what internal lists cannot: validated component-level analysis tied to regulatory thresholds, reporting triggers, and documentation requirements.
ChemCheck begins with a physical, on-site inventory conducted by Alta EHS professionals. Every product is identified, verified, and evaluated for composition, storage condition, and location.
During this process, Alta also observes facility operations through an EHS lens—reviewing how materials are used, handled, and stored—to identify regulatory implications that may not be apparent from inventory records alone.
All verified data is entered into Alta’s internal compliance database, where each component is compared against multiple regulatory lists (CAA, EPA, OSHA, etc). The result is a clear determination of which substances require reporting, what form of reporting is applicable, and when those obligations must be addressed.
What ChemCheck Provides
- Validated chemical inventory with component-level classification and observed EHS conditions
- Threshold analysis tied to federal, state, and municipal requirements
- Determination of Tier II, TRI, and hazardous materials reporting applicability
- RMP and PSM screening
- Hazardous Material Inventory Statement preparation and submission
- Tier II reporting preparation and submission
- Updated SDS documentation with aligned numbering and cloud-based access
- Compliance gap identification based on observed inventory conditions and regulatory triggers
- A regulatory calendar outlining ongoing compliance obligations
With ChemCheck, every outcome is specific: which materials, in what quantities, under which regulatory authority, and with what deadline implications.
Why It Matters
Many facilities manage chemical information as an internal record. ChemCheck functions instead as an external, regulatory-facing analysis. It documents the conditions under which reporting applies and provides the rationale behind those determinations.
This service is designed for high-accountability environments like:
- Manufacturing with active formulations
- Chemical storage and distribution facilities
- Industrial operations with fluctuating inventories
- Multi-site national portfolios subject to Tier II and TRI review
FAQs: ChemCheck
What distinguishes ChemCheck from a standard chemical inventory?
A traditional inventory records what is present during the audit. ChemCheck uses a proprietary database to determine and document what must be reported, why, and under which regulatory authority. It combines on-site verification, operational observation, and component-level threshold analysis to produce defensible reporting determinations.
How does ChemCheck establish regulatory triggers?
Each material documented on-site is classified to the component level and cross-referenced within Alta’s proprietary regulatory database. Thresholds are analyzed against: Tier II, TRI, Hazardous materials reporting (local fire code), RMP and PSM relevance where applicable. The resulting determinations are specific, time-bound, and defensible.
How often is ChemCheck recommended?
Annually. Chemical inventories and formulations and quantities change incrementally across a year, and those shifts may affect reporting applicability or threshold status even if product categories remain constant.
Does ChemCheck include correction of non-compliant conditions?
ChemCheck identifies potential regulatory implications and gaps observed during on-site verification. Corrective actions, mitigation design, or permitting support are provided under separate Alta services.ChemCheck provides the foundation from which those decisions are made.
How does ChemCheck support multi-site or national portfolios?
By applying a uniform classification and threshold methodology across locations. Facilities are evaluated consistently, and reporting obligations are documented with comparable rationale, supporting internal oversight and external review.
What if facility personnel change during the compliance cycle?
ChemCheck maintains continuity. All regulatory determinations, SDS records, and threshold analyses remain intact and fully documented, independent of staff turnover or reassignment.
Can ChemCheck reduce the cost of required reporting?
Yes. Tier II reporting and the Hazardous Material Inventory Statement are typically included as part of the ChemCheck process. Other reporting, such as TRI or additional regulatory submittals, depends on the facility and what is required based on the ChemCheck determinations. Because ChemCheck establishes verified quantities, component-level classifications, and regulatory thresholds in advance, any subsequent reporting is usually completed more efficiently and at a reduced cost. The underlying data, determinations, and reporting rationale are already developed, minimizing rework and uncertainty.
Does ChemCheck function as a compliance audit?
No. ChemCheck identifies regulatory triggers and reporting obligations based on verified inventory and observed conditions. While full compliance audits, corrective action development, permitting review, safety evaluations, and EHS plan development can be performed by Alta, these services are separate from ChemCheck. ChemCheck provides the foundation and insights needed to confidently support those broader EHS activities.
