Hazardous Material Inventory Service (HMIS) & Gap Analysis

On-site Physical Inventory
Alta E&I conducts a thorough walkthrough of each facility to document the names, quantities, and locations of all hazardous materials. During this process, we assess operations from an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance perspective to identify any potential regulatory requirements. This information will form the foundation for subsequent reporting, including the Tier II Report.
Proprietary Database
Alta EI has developed a proprietary database designed to streamline the chemical inventory process. During the inventory, our specialists input chemical names, CAS numbers, and quantities into the database, which then analyzes the associated Safety Data Sheets. The system quantifies on-site components, compares these totals to reporting thresholds, and identifies the applicable regulatory reporting requirements, including SARA, TRI, SPCC, RMP, PSM, and air quality standards. This innovative tool enhances efficiency and accuracy in managing chemical inventories and compliance obligations.
Safety Data Sheets Updated
Alta E&I updates and organizes all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) electronically, as required by HazCom and Globally Harmonized System (GHS) standards. These SDS are numbered and uploaded to a shared drive for easy access. Additionally, a master SDS binder is created and delivered to the site for use by facility personnel.
Tier II Reporting
Tier II reporting, mandated by the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), requires certain facilities, those that store hazardous chemicals above specific thresholds, to submit annual reports detailing the hazardous chemicals they store and use. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) oversees this reporting process, which aims to inform local communities and emergency responders about potential chemical hazards. Navigating the complexities of Tier II reporting can be daunting, but through the HMIS process, Alta EI will prepare and submit the reports accurately and on time.
Compliance Gap Analysis and EHS Calendar
As part of the chemical data collection process, Alta EI's EH&S specialists also assess the facility's regulatory obligations. Following the facility inspection, our team analyzes operational processes to identify relevant EH&S regulations and evaluate the facility's compliance status. We provide clients with a comprehensive Gap Analysis, highlighting areas that require attention. Additionally, we create a compliance calendar to clarify the various requirements and deadlines necessary to maintain adherence to EH&S regulations, simplifying the complexities of compliance management.
HMIS Statement
Alta E&I develops the Hazardous Material Inventory Statement and submits it to the local fire department, if applicable, to ensure compliance with local safety requirements. This statement provides critical details about the hazardous materials stored on-site, including types, quantities, locations, and proper handling procedures. This information enables fire departments to respond effectively in emergencies, ensuring safety for both responders and the facility.
