Special Inspection

Comprehensive Inspections
Our Special Inspection Department routinely inspects construction projects to ensure compliance with various standards and regulations. ALTA EI provides in-house inspections for all typical Special Inspection types required by the International Building and Residential Codes, covering a wide range of critical construction structural elements. Our team includes multiple experienced and certified inspectors and engineers who are well-versed in the nuances of different jurisdiction inspection requirements.
Expert Training and Certification
Our inspectors undergo formal training and certification procedures tailored to their specific areas of expertise. This includes reinforced concrete, structural masonry, spray-applied fire-resistant materials, and structural steel, among others. These rigorous training programs ensure that our inspectors are fully equipped to handle the complexities of modern construction projects.
Advanced Technology
Equipped with the latest technology, our Special Inspectors provide accurate and timely reporting of inspection activities. This technological edge allows for detailed documentation and analysis, ensuring that every aspect of the inspection process is thoroughly completed. Our commitment to leveraging advanced tools enhances the reliability and efficiency of our services.
Clear Communication
We prioritize clear and open communication with all project participants. During our services, we address any items that may require clarification, fostering a collaborative environment. This approach helps in resolving potential issues promptly and ensures that all stakeholders are informed and on the same page throughout the inspection process.
SPECIAL INSPECTION
SERVICES DETAILED

Soil Inspections
The soil inspection process includes the verification of compliance with codes and specifications for various soil classifications and placement operations.

Reinforced Concrete
Reinforced concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials. Inspections typically include verification of reinforcing steel placement, anchor bolts, post-installed anchorage, material submittals, and observation of plastic concrete to ensure compliance with applicable codes and specifications.

Structural Masonry
Structural masonry inspections include the observation of reinforcing steel installation, mortar and grouting operations, cell construction, seismic members, a review of various materials submittals, and installation practices for code and specification compliance.

Steel Frame, Bolting and Welding
Structural steel inspection services include high-strength bolting (torque and snug-tight), structural member verification, and material certification for both erectors and welders. Inspections are performed during fabrication and in the field, covering full-penetration welds and non-destructive testing to ensure compliance with project specifications and code requirements.

Fire Resistant Materials
Inspections of fire-resistant materials, such as spray-applied coatings, intumescent paints, and firestopping systems, include verification of substrate conditions and testing for material density, adhesion, and thickness. These inspections ensure compliance with applicable building codes and fire protection standards.

Deep Foundations
Deep foundations are used to support heavy structures, bridge components, or elements subject to significant lateral or overturning forces. Inspection services include verification of subsurface conditions, installation methods, material compliance, and dimensional accuracy to ensure adherence to design specifications and applicable codes.

Post-Tensioned Concrete
Post-tensioned slabs are commonly used in residential developments, parking structures, and high-rise buildings where reducing concrete cross-sectional area is beneficial. Inspections are performed by Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) certified inspectors to verify tendon layout, stressing operations, and compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.

Precast Concrete
Precast concrete is commonly used in structures that can be created in a relatively controlled environment and transported to a project site. These structures include manholes, utility vaults, drop structures and reinforced concrete pipes. Observations and inspections during precast concrete construction and field installation (erection) are performed to document the construction practices and verify compliance with codes and specifications.

Retaining and Site Walls
Retaining and site walls are used to retain materials and create vertical barriers. The inspection of these walls typically includes special inspection observations performed during construction, performing various field and laboratory materials testing, and inspections of retaining wall construction (reinforce steel, concrete placement, segmental, or basket walls erection) to document construction practices and verify compliance with codes and specifications.

Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS)
Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems are utilized in construction to protect structural items from environmental hazards. The inspection of these systems includes the view of project specifications and approved submittals, observations and inspections performed during construction to verify material installation practices and ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
